March 2018

8/3/18
A beautiful sunny morning with a definite feel and smell of spring in the air - such a contrast to the Siberian winds and snow of last week!
I walked along the west side of Loe Pool along to Loe Bar, then around Carminowe Creek and up Degibna Lane. There was a moderate Westerly breeze and the waves on the Bar were impressive! There may be a few wave paintings to come...
Along the way I saw a lovely friendly Robin who stopped to say 'Hello' at the Penrose Stables. Clearly a favourite haunt of his on the hunt for crumbs from people who stop at the cafe!
I stopped to sketch on the far side of Carminowe Creek looking towards the holiday cottages. I liked the look of the old stone cottages snuggled into the hillside with the steely blue waters and the reeds in the foreground.

The wind swung round quite suddenly from the Siberian East again bringing with it another round of snow! This time I was determined to see Penrose in the snow before it melted, which was by lunchtime!
The snow transformed the landscape and I took hundreds (literally!) of photographs. I must confess that I found it too cold to stop and draw today but I did this sketch from my photographs and memories of the day. There will be a few more drawings and paintings of snowy Penrose to come....
