February 2018
5/2/18
This was a beautiful morning on the Penrose Estate. It was the coldest morning this winter so far. There was a frost and the puddles had iced over - most unusual for this area of Cornwall!
I walked on the Degibna side of Penrose. The water levels of The Cober River and Loe Pool are still very high due to the large amounts of rain we have been having. The air was very crisp and clear; a lovely winter's morning and the frozen ground made the mud easier to cross!
This sketch is from the entrance to a field at the side of Digibna Lane looking towards Loe Bar. I loved the light and shade, the view through the old stone farm gate and the beautiful bright colours. Despite the cold of the morning, there was a definite hint of spring in the air. and I saw a few daffodils were coming out already...

A VERY chilly day so I walked very quickly to keep warm!
I walked from the Flora Day Carpark (as it's known locally) from Helston to Loe Bar. The first signs of spring were emerging with daffodils in bud and a few had even dared to come out! There were some beautifully dramatic skies that made Loe Bar look almost heavenly.
I was determined to sketch even though it was bitterly cold so I headed to the western side of Loe Bar beach so that I could shelter against the cliffs from the strong westerly wind. Needless to say, the sketch was a very quick one!
Snow forecast for next week and it will be interesting to see if it comes here and lays as this is a rare occurrence in this part of Cornwall. If it does, will I be brave enough to venture to Penrose to see it....?
