December 2018

 10/11/18

It was a cloudy morning to start with on my walk this morning, but as the time wore on, the watery December sun broke through the clouds casting a rather lovely light on the landscape.

The River Cober was very high due to the rain that we have been having, making up for the dry Summer and early Autumn. I walked on the path almost as far as the stables and then onto the higher Penrose carpark. I stopped and painted a favourite view of mine of Loe Pool where the bird hide used to be. The light there was so beautiful and glimmered and sparkled on the water.

The trees were almost completely bare but were no less dramatic and their twisted branches seemed very dramatic against the soft, early winter landscape colours...

My final walk of the year through Penrose already! This time I walked from the Helston end, up the main path to the Stables. I paused here to sketch the buildings. I love the textured, weathered stones and the little bell tower on the top. The cafe wasn't open today as it opens at limited times during the winter.

It was a showery morning which made the sky dramatic and beautiful. I walked to Loe Bar and then onto the new path to Porthleven. The sea and skies were lovely, especially over The Bar.

This concludes my year of visiting Penrose at least twice a month and observing the seasons and how they affect this dramatic and beautiful landscape. The next part of my project is to spend some time using the sketches, observations and photographs to create some more finished pieces. I will be updating my website as I go along so watch this space...
